I seem to remember them referring to it as the Anniversary Edition.

But that may just have been a convenient way to identify the new edition and not necessarily the official name.

apparently it's not a complete new D&D, it's just additional rule sets and lore to be added to 5e and used along side it, might be worth checking that tho, I'm only going off what my friend said

Yeah, it's backwards compatible, so more of a 5.5 edition.
