Hats
Re: Hats
I made an 11th century style hat that was found patched up with all sorts of scraps. I opted to leave the back flap off of mine for long hair reasons. It's pretty much just a pillbox style hat with a strip of wool overtop and the ear flaps reinforced with more wool. So very much blanket stitching, but I think it will work well to keep me warm. Also note the small elvish "B" embroidered on the left ear flap.
Re: Hats
I ended up staying up late last night and making another historical hat, the phrygian cap. I'll wear it backwards though, as I prefer that look as it is more Thorin & Co. It was very simple and easy to make. I blanket stitched the two pieces together on the two seams, and then folded over a lip and sewed that in place with a back stitch.

I did not know Phrygian hats were so simple to make. I'll have to give it a go!
