ithillach

Post by dwayne davis »

Fellow rangers, i give you Ithillach, ( moon flame) born from a tinker norman sword from KOA. the grip is white oak, decorated with a simple dunadain star, the blade engraved in furthark runes. ( hopfully Tolkein would have approved) i am currently working on a by knife for the scabbard, i wish i had taken progress pics to show what she looked like taken down. the tang is as wide as the fuller, to give you an idea of width the grip is only 1/8th inch wider on each side at the cross!!! its wide and flat all the way through the pommel. she is very nimble for a production sword. the 5160 steel blade is very nice. the cross and pommle were refinished in a flat satin. she cuts ver good, and is forgiving of ocasional poor alighnment. sadly cant seem to get the blade to glow :P but shine rather nice in the moonlight.( we took a walk together last night)

hey pete, i used a dremmel with a diamond cutting wheel. i masked off the blade leaving the area i wanted to engrave, then i drew out the runes with a sharpie. it took about two hours, working slow keeping the steel temp dpwn. :D Oh side note it took everything that diamond wheel had, thats some hard steel.

Thralls as in minions or servants. basicly a curse against them.( had to have a tolkein inspired inscription on a ranger blade) :D also when writing in runes you leave off doubled letters such as the l's in the word thrall instead using only one L. also most words are spelled pheoneticly as well ex. write becomes writ, time becomes tym ect.same rule applies for names.

Words cannot describe that blades beauty my friend! Its just magical,The white handle, the runes, all of it makes one perfect package!

Thats is a blade to be proud of, you should make a song/poem about it.

Thanks for sharing it with us

I think I may have to send a blade to you at some point for customization, if you're willing. Your work is professional quality, to say the least.
Now the sword shall come from under the cloak.
