I've seen this before with a axe. He'd cut a piece of downed wood and leave one end with a large spike/splinter. He'd take the spikey end and jam it into the ground and then use the other as the stove.

I've seen this floating around Facebook, and I feel like I really have to try it at some point. Unfortunately, there have been burning bans in CO lately (for good reason), so it may have to wait a long while.
