Axe Project
This is an axe project I discussed with Avery several monthes ago. I had purchased a Hanwei Hero's axe head that the previous owner had cut off one of the blades and hadn't completed.
I cut down a double bit axe handle about 6 inches and rounded off one of the bottom sides. Slotted the top and filed it down to fit the axe head socket. I took off most of the coating on the blade, leaving just enough to give it a ancient look.
I looked for a reddish wood stain in my cabinet and didn't have any so I went through my leather stains for something reddish. I ended up with a green stain and started applying it to the haft. It was then I realiied I'd seen a green hafted axe before. Sorry Scott, it really wasn't intentional. Covered it with several coats of polyurethene.
The brass pieces are belt mounts I trimmed and bent to go around the axe head. The "rivet heads" are just some steel nails trimmed and epoxied in the haft.

I plan on adding some brass tacks around the top and bottom of the leather grip wrap.

Well, I've heard that the best form of flattery is plagerism . That looks really good! What's left of the finish makes the head look pitted and very old. I like it.

Re: Axe Project
Looks really nice. Much better than the double-bladed axe it started out as.
Still round the corner there may wait a new road or a secret gate and though I oft have passed them by a day will come at last when I shall take the hidden paths that run west of the moon, east of the sun.
