Rangers Wish Lists

Post by Greg »

The whole wanted section here on the forum is a great tool for searching out some things that might be harder to find. However, since most of us rangers are hoarders to some extent and have some gear lying around that we barely ever use, there are most likely some other rangers who could use said gear.

That being said, I'd like to give this thread a try. Post a "wish list" of everthing you're looking to acquire for your ranger kit. If you are able to lay your hands on one of the items, use the "EDIT" button in the top left of your post to edit it out or something else to that effect. This way, it can be an ongoing wanted list that we can all browse on a semi-regular basis, and can help ourselves out by getting rid of some stuff we don't use but could be another ranger's treasure.

Bear in mind, you can list things such as fabric types, etc. so someone can point you in the right direction towards a distributor, say, if you're having trouble finding what you want in local stores.

I'll start out, to give an idea of what I'm thinking for these lists (you can change the format if it suits your needs). I'll be changing the color of my text to black as I acquire the items I'm looking for, so anything you see on my list that's blacked out, I've gotten ahold of.

5/16" Glue-on Bodkins
Martial Edge "Hobbit" Sword
Olive Green Linen Fabric (searching for supplier, by the yard)
Medium Brown Linen Fabric (searching for supplier, by the yard)
Light Tan/Beige Canvas Fabric (searching for supplier, by the yard)
Thick Grey Wool Fabric (searching for supplier, by the yard)
A Crap-ton of Brown and Black Oil-Tanned Stoned Cowhide Sides/Scraps
Valiant Armoury "Bristol"
Ritter Steel Leaf-Bladed Boot Knife

If this winds up being useless, so be it...but I'd like to give it a shot. Carry on!

I think it's a great idea! Here's a couple of links that may help.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Myself I would like the following:

Welsh Short Bow http://www.kultofathena.com (1) $98.00

Bodkins http://www.kultofathena.com (6) $24.95

Leather Quiver http://www.by-the-sword.com (1) $171.00 (that's why it's called a wish list!)

Archer's Cowl http://www.ravenswoodleather.com (1) $125.00

Baldric http://www.leatherlore.com (1) $79.00

Total (so far) $497.95! Thank the Valar I am married! that is a house payment!

All of these things except for the bow (mine is a longbow), and cowl I do have; they are just not as nice as I would like, so I would be upgrading. Of course, if I did upgrade, I would be sure to post the old items on the For Sale list. We might just be cleaning out our craft room and old faire items this weekend, and if we have anything we can part with, we will see if anyone here would like first crack at them. Great idea for the list!

I'd like to think that it CAN end...but it probably won't.

I'm of the opinion that once I've gotten the rest of my actual CLOTHING set up and together, I'll be able to stop acquiring and just go trekking...but I think ALL of us will find it hard to pull ourselves away from making, customizing, and acquiring.

Greg:

I was looking for some inexpensive bodkins and I found these. Not 100% authentic but they look good and the price is very good.

I'm refering to the ones he calls short bodkins at the top of the page, although he does carry more traditional ones at the bottom.

Just noticed he also has some rough spearhead at 13.2 BP that equates to $19 and change.

There not pretty but you can't beat the price particularly if you have a grinder or some files and a little time.

I just acquired the Ritter Steel Leaf-Bladed Boot Knife that I had on my list yesterday, and I must say, this thing is fantastic. Ritter steel has a Kris version, a single-bladed version, AND the leaf-bladed version, all at the same price of 17~some-odd dollars from Kult of Athena, and the blade is just fantastic. Came razor sharp and ready to start taking care of business. If anyone's looking for a cheap knife that's got it where it counts and looks ME, look no further.

Thanks for the Bodkin link, Pete!

I have the Sgian Dubh in their line, very nice little blade. Not much impressed with sheath that comes with it, I think it is leather covered basswood, but that can be remedied easily enough.
