Getting it done

Post by wulfgar »

I'm almost finished with my soft kit. I went for something that I could use for SCA and Rangering. Under neath are green linen trousers and a green linen tunic. I have the three toggle viking boots and a belt from Viking Leather crafts. The outer tunic is dark gray wool, and the cloak and winingas are herringbone weave wool. I will also make some linen winingas for summer wear. I also have a hood that isn't in the picture and I am working on a cap. For the cloak, I went with a Bocksten style. I am slowly piecing together the small stuff and patiently waiting for my bow to arrive.

I like! Does the hood match the cloak or is it slightly different? How does it feel? Done any trekking yet? That is how I want my next cloak to be, I think your garb looks good, now for the kit!

The hood is a different material. A dark brown wool with orange flecks,,,not bright orange, kind of a fall orange. It's hard to see, but I did a simple line of green embroidery around the cuffs and color of the wool tunic. The green undertunic is very plain. I haven't done any trekking in it yet, But I may do an overnighter in a couple of weeks during spring break. I will definitely take pics.

Looks fantastic! I really like the Bocksten style cloak. Haven't really seen anyone else do one like that. I'm excited to see the rest!

For some reason, the comment I left a couple of days ago didn't post.

Looks nice - simple, efficient and inconspicuous.

Thank you for all the kind comments.
Here's a pic of the Birka pouch, a seax, and the belt I got from Viking Leather. I finished the little sheath for the seax last night.

Here's a close up of the buckle, it has a very "Gondorian" feel IMHO. Sorry for the picture quality.

I absolutely love those buckles. I've been meaning to get my hands on a couple of them for a while to use on my girlfriend's Elven quiver. Incidentally, in your opinion, since you actually own one of these buckles, do you think it would be possible to feed a strap through the buckle the other direction, like the one shown below on Legolas' quiver? Would there be any way you could test that out for me? I specifically need a buckle that can do this, and they're surprisingly difficult to find.

I think that it would be possible. I can give it a try when I get home this evening.

The buckle is sized for a 1 inch strap and it is possible to thread it that way.
