Art thread? Might take some fun small requests if people want.
So my dwarven drawings seem to have been well liked. I hope i can inspire other people as well. Ive also decided that it might be fun to let people request drawings of things.
Would people be intrested in that?
In that case:
I want to keep it tolkien, and mostly smaller things of figures, not full scenes (as im less good at that.). This is all free and for fun, so it will not be proffessional stuff, but rather fun things that might inspire you and me.

Hmmmmm.... Well, your work's amazing so far, if your up for it I'd love to see your take on Beorn from The HobbitDarnokthemage wrote: Ive also decided that it might be fun to let people request drawings of things
Gimli: It's true you don't see many Dwarf-women. And in fact, they are so alike in voice and appearance, that they are often mistaken for Dwarf-men.

Your line has a very similar feel to the professor's own original drawings. To that end, I'd be fascinated to see your take on a Ranger, seeing as how we never got a drawing of anything related from him.

Here the ranger is, it was done swifly, so its not as detailed as many others. I have to admit im not as invested in rangers as many others here. It also seem to be a more well-off Ranger, as the jerkin is very fancy. I would imagine many of you could make much more tolkienesque designs. But here he is.

I like the patterns you've chosen to use on the edges of his tunic and jerkin
it's interesting that you don't show him with vambraces when that's in most peoples mental image, is there any specific thought behind this?

I have never seen vanbraces in any historical context, nor in a tolkien one (except Imrahil?). I also think they look too "high fantasy" to be common in Tolkien. They simply feel to Weta(nothing wrong with that but its not what im aiming for) to be in my taste.

That's fair, everyones interpretation is different, I guess I just expect to see at least one because he's holding a bow, however the string should never clip the arm of a skilled archerDarnokthemage wrote:I have never seen vanbraces in any historical context, nor in a tolkien one (except Imrahil?). I never thought about that, may have to change my opinion about vanbraces (its not a strongly held one).

I think given the arm guards found on the Mary Rose:
https://leatherworkingreverend.wordpres ... rousel-384
.... we can safely assume that while professional archers knew the string shouldn't clip the forearm... sometimes things happen.
I do think bracers make sense in a "rangery" context - if for no other reason, keeping nasty critters out of one's sleeves.
Not so good for ventilation though. It's always something.
