Silence

Post by Ernildir »

This poem isn't directly related to Tolkien, but it was inspired by Luthien. I thought I'd share it.

I stood upon a Westward shore
Of dawn’s aurelian sea:
Descried the sun to heaven soar,
When Silence beckoned me.

I saw her dancing under moon,
As sonance she allayed,
Her garment was with lilies strewn,
In silver light arrayed.

I watched in awe as she dispelled
The voices of the day,
The wind and gulls and ocean quelled,
Amid her dance’s sway.

When all was silent as a void,
And I in noiseless peace,
I sought to ask of what employed
Could cause a sound to cease.

"O Silence, dost thou weave thy web?
Wherefore the absent sound?"
But once my voice her lull did ebb,
She could no more be found.
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

Outstanding poem! Love the flow, very Elven I think. So, how does it sound in Sindarin?

Thanks. Perhaps I'll try translating it when next I have a large chunk of free time, and then we can find out. ;)

Very nice. I'd like a crack at putting it to music, provided I can find the time and with your permission of course.
