Re: Amazon's Wheel of Time Series

I've seen the four available episodes. I read the first two books ages ago in high school but never finished the series so I'll refrain from judging the faithfulness to the books. As a fantasy, it's been interesting and I'll keep watching for such. But man, the whole costuming department needs to be...

Re: New Sword

That is a slick looking design right there! The two rings on the crossguard are really fun. I love it! We need more Men of Rohan though so be careful on the road to a Ranger haha!

Re: Were the Fellowship’s Brooches Unique?

Because I was intrigued by Greg's comment on having the cloth already at hand, I looked up the average length of time it takes to hand-weave cloth for garment use. I found this *very* interesting article detailing the experimental archaeological construction of a Viking Age linen shirt. I figured it...

Re: Autumn 2021 Available Now!

Loved it! I am not exaggerating when I say that one of the greatest pleasures in my life is waking up on the weekend, fixing myself a cup of tea or coffee early in the morning and leisurely reading the latest issue of EotW. I especially enjoyed the narrative and poetic parts of this issue. Well done...

Re: Extended outing ideas

I am not a lawyer so take this all with a grain of salt or two but frankly, this sounds like a terrible idea and trouble waiting to happen. This is not a safe nor smart idea. Backcountry living is no joke for one thing but the purpose of your mission gives me pause. First, you'd be all alone. Commun...

Re: The Nature of Middle-earth - Discussion!

I had to pause while reading the initial post to come down here and chuckle at Tolkien’s description of Boromir, at 6-feet 4-inches, as being “much shorter” than Aragorn’s 6’6” From my point of view, as a guy who exaggerates his own height slightly to reach 5’10”, this is hilarious. Hate to b...

Re: THE FANTASY RANGER - Historical Origin And Most Effective Weapons (Video)

I don’t want to harsh anyone’s mellow here but from a historical perspective, Shad is full of crap. I hold him in pretty high disdain and wish less people would listen to him. He is egotistical and doesn’t admit when he is wrong which is frequent. He doesn’t back up anything with sources which is th...

Re: The Nature of Middle-earth - Discussion!

Yes, I do believe that’s the aforementioned drawing. I had seen it before but I don’t believe I have heard the Professor’s opinion on it until now. It is frustrating that Mr Hostetter did not transcribe the whole of Tolkien’s thoughts on the portraits and just left it as “good.” It’s unlikely that i...

The Nature of Middle-earth - Discussion!

Hello everybody! With the latest in Professor Tolkien's work starting to drop, I figured I'd kick off a little book club discussion. I received my copy earlier this week and have only now begun to peruse it. This needn't be only regarding our hobby here but I imagine that will be most of it haha. So...

Thank you Caedmon! I know we all really appreciate the hard work you put into making this site what it is. I suppose now is as good a time as any to ask what we can do to help keep this site running? I spend most of my internet time perusing through here and I know I’d like to give back. Are there s...
