Re: Birthday Mathom give-away
I'll put my name in the hat. I've actually never seen the animated videos.
When my birthday comes around again I'll have to remember this and find a mathom to give away.

Re: question on bows
I'm jealous of your backed ipe bow. Before settling on my current bow I tried getting a bamboo backed ipe from someone who I thought was fairly reputable. Unfortunately the first bow arrived with a draw weight of about 20-25 pounds. I sent it back, and the next bow exploded before I reached full dra...

Re: Captain,my Captain!
Folks might want to read this article, http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2013/05/30/72294-viggo-turned-down-role-as-aragorn-not-so-fast/ The rumor of Viggo turning down an offer to play Arragorn in the Hobbit seems to be kind of taken out of context and turned into something it really wasn't. The art...

Re: Is PJ's Arkenstone a Silmaril?
It's George Lucas syndrome. Only in this case, he's butchering someone ELSE'S legendarium instead of his own. Which is rather worse :/ True, there are many similarities made between the Hobbit and Star Wars prequels. I've even made similar analogies such as comparing Radagast to JarJar. Thankfully,...

Re: Glove, Tab, String Covers, Nothing
Finger protection is important because bare fingers with heavy weight can damage nerve endings and tendons in your fingers. Glove vs tab is personal preference and is constantly debated. I'm sure it was debated back then too with examples of both being in use. My preference is a tab because I hate t...

Re: New bow, and some projects
Nice looking equipment. I especially love the knives. If your string slap is near your wrist, it could mean that the brace height is too low. I've had that happen to me before when I strung up my bow without paying close attention to the fact that when the string untwisted some when it fell off the ...

Re: question on bows
After having lack of success with purchasing selfbow style bows, my last bow purchase was an Omega longbow. It is a fiberglass backed bow with a hybrid design that makes it less authentic. However, the quality and price are excellent. If there's one part of my gear that I want to be reliable, it's m...

Use the same bow. Just carry a few arrows with blunts for hunting small game and save your broadheads for combat.

Re: Captain,my Captain!
Agreed. If Legolas' role was kept to a simple cameo in Mirkwood I would not have minded, and even enjoyed it. That would have even made some sense as he would likely be there but not important enough for the story to be a named character in the Hobbit, which focuses on Bilbo's development has he tra...

Re: Planning my first leather project
Thanks for the tip Ringulf. I had some wax based product for leather shoes that I applied over it that seems to be working fine. The stitching did take quite a long time. The pattern was based off one with lacing the back seams together with a leather strip. Since I don't care for the look of leathe...

Re: An interesting find
This is really interesting. My head is already spinning trying to find ways to adapt this to a medieval style as something that rangers could have worn, perhaps as a jerkin instead of leather. With all the glue holding the linen together, would this really be any more breathable/comfortable to wear?
