Re: New Canteen/Cooking pot

BTW I found another no leather strap porridge pot at Jas Townsend & Son http://jas-townsend.com/copper-porridge ... -1241.html

I was trying to see if I could find one that cost less than Goose Bay but it is similarly priced.

Re: Hidehandler Mountain Hunter Elite Quiver Review

wow truly a beautiful quiver. Thanks. Though credit goes to Steve Catts on making it beautiful. I had ordered it before joining MERF and had not ordered it thinking of a Ranger kit quiver. Thus why it has some of the modern parts. Though the quiver is cool enough I will likely use it with my Ranger...

Re: Millbank bag water filtration

Would you have to boil the water that comes out of a Millbank Bag anyway, to kill the bugs? Yup. millbank bags just filter out the larger bits of detritus. however it can hold back the particles that nasty bugs lurk on. boiling or chemical sterilisation is still necessary. ive done this with pools,...

Hidehandler Mountain Hunter Elite Quiver Review

http://s25.postimg.org/uj1ccrspb/MHE_and_Sage.jpg Introduction Well first off let me start by saying I have no affiliation with Steve Catts of Hidehandler leather other than purchasing one of his quivers. Second I will say I had been looking and lusting after his quivers for a few years after comin...

Re: No stitch leather sheath

These sheaths are quite similar to an old cowboy style holster design (though the holster does get stitched. The Mexican loop holster, typically these days found with double or single loops but they did come in triple and more loops too. http://media.midwayusa.com/productimages/880x660/Primary/131/1...

Re: No stitch leather sheath

Seems like a field expedient way to replace a lost sheath. Probably not something to permanently use though.

Still really cool though. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Millbank bag water filtration

He obsesses a little too much over the length of the mil-spec paracord, hehe. It's just a canvas bag. I would put some crushed charcoal in the bag first. BTW, this does not disinfect the water: Granular-activated carbon (GAC) purifies water by adsorbing organic and inorganic chemicals and most heav...

My friend 7Song is an herbalist who specializes in first aid in wilderness situations (he's run first aid at the Rainbow Gatherings for decades). He's an excellent clinical herbalist (one of the very good ones in the US) and just excels in first aid; he's not saying "use yarrow to stop bleedin...

Millbank bag water filtration

While maybe this should be in soft kit section, I sort of figured most folks would look in hard kit for water filtration so added it here instead. I had just watched this interesting video. eQCBzfxD9no And learned about these cool simple filters that I had not known about before. The simplicity and ...

Re: How do I maintain my longbow?

I use the same 50/50 mix of linseed oil and mineral spirits that I make oilcloth with. I also wax my bow staves with beeswax on occasion. Hope this helps! Yep boiled linseed oil and mineral spirit mix and a good bees waxing should keep your bow nice and alive. I was going to offer up the same advic...
