Tightening a peened pommel
So over the course of whacking my sword against a pell for the past few weeks, I've found that the peen on my hilt has worked itself loose and the guard has started to rattle. I made an attempt at tightening it up again by hammering it cold but I noticed little to no difference after my efforts. I w...

Re: Cloak storage?
Oh of course it's that simple. I really tend to overthink things sometimes!

Re: Cloak storage?
Sorry, should've clarified, I'm looking for ways to carry the cloak whilst still being on the trail rather than once I've made campStraelbora wrote:It either becomes a rolled-up pillow or a blanket (or additional blanket).

Cloak storage?
So I was wondering if any if you have come up with a way to tackle the issue of where to put your cloak while traveling should you take it off? Do you roll it up in your bedroll, fold it up and sling it over your shoulder? I'm trying to figure out a way to solve this as I previously had only one bla...

Re: A new addition
I know this is a bit of an old thread but first off, this is great I love the look of this, and secondly I was wondering what you did to age the stainless fittings after you sanded them? I’ve just used watered down washes of paint on mine but I’m looking for a more permanent solution that won’...

These are spectacular! They look like they could’ve been unearthed in an archaeological dig! I love the subdued patina you gave them, as well as the hand hammered construction. They feel very real
Re: New cloak
This is pretty cool! I really dig the look with the duster as well!

Re: My kit as of now
Flint was typically used in Europe, historically speaking, but it doesn't have to be flint. Quartz also works, and other hard stones are worth trying. You just need something harder than the steel that will drive a spark off. I'll just pick up rocks that look like they have really sharp edges when ...

The seam placement is where it is just because I was aiming for something along the lines of these in terms of design.Taurinor wrote: I don't know that I've seen turnshoes with a seam along the top before - any particular reason that you chose that seam placement?

Re: My kit as of now
Wow, that looks great, especially for a first pass! At the moment, the roll itself is just made up of my blanket and an oilcloth I recently made. The bag just contains a copper pot I cobbled together out of various items from the local recycling center and stuffing. I'd love to hear more about your...

Water Canteen
I've just finished work on a pretty standard leather canteen! bottle.jpg I made the two panels out of leather, stitched them together, soaked it in water, stuffed it with barley and lined the whole thing with a mixture of beeswax and pine rosin. When it came to the lining process I did make a couple...

Pants! Boots!
After managing to snag a bunch of linen on sale recently I put together some basic drawstring pants I patterned off of some jeans I have that are slightly to wide for me. I dyed them a darker shade of brown than the fabric was originally and I'm pretty happy with the way that they've turned out. I d...

Re: My kit as of now
Everything looks purposeful and intentional so far...I like it! I see major progress comparedto the usual starting-out kit, which is usually a mishmash of purchased belt pouches. You've clearly invested thought, and it's going to pay off! I'm curious what all you're stowing in your snapsack at the ...
