Ranger camp knife
So... My main camp knife started off as a coldsteel Bushman knife... There are 2 versions a Bowie and a regular... mine is the regular blade... For those getting into Bushcraft or just wanting a good inexpensive blade they can abuse and can take the abuse but doesn't cost a arm and a leg it's a pret...

Sound's like you have a good machine shop setup, I look forward to seeing other things you make - the possibility's with a lathe and mill are (almost) endless forgive my stupidity (comparing it to a bridgeport :P ) it's hard to tell scale on those pics... oops  Bah no stupidity on your par...

Re: Iron shod walking staff/spear haft
The lathe is a Grizzly 9x20 The mill is a Grizzly o forget the model number but it's a rebranded Sieg x3 mill which is a mid sized mill... The jig is a hexagonal 5c collet holder and I used a 1inch collet and turned a piece of pipe to fit. Then machined some trued up threads to hold the cap square.....

Iron shod walking staff/spear haft
A few months ago I took my walking stick out to beat some brush while hunting with some Falconer friends of mine and of course I lost my buttcap because I never epoxied it on the first time...... So today in preparation for the camp I have coming up in 2 weeks I decided to fix the problem. I started...

Re: Suduing wood and metal.. thoughts?
Here are a few example of forced patinas I have done to my gear... Also another easy and accurate way of darkening wood is to torch it.... I torch vs dying/staining most of my wooden "tools" then seal with boiled linseed oil.... Which is also accurate for the timeframe.... Heated wood also...

Tons of wood dyes you can use from natural and primitive to modern..... Personally when I am fletching Woodies I don't use stains but water based dyes..... Makes for a much prettier shafting in whatever color by not covering the wood grain like a stain tends to do..... As far as force patinas on met...

Re: Woodland archery - what's the longest shot you get?
To resurrect a post from a bit ago... Typically in my woods I get between 10 and 45 yards shots.... Shooting Trad at our wooded 3d shoots I think our stakes are setup between 10 and 35 or so.... To add to what's already been said... As far as what to pair a bow with or what kind of bow ... Man... Th...
