Re: When and Where should the term 'Ranger' be applied?

Maybe the term ranger is used by different people to mean different things, just like in modern English. The US has forestry rangers, park rangers and army rangers, in the UK we have rangers that are similar to forest or park rangers but slightly different in wildlife conservation roles, same with t...

Hygiene

Just curious how others keep clean on prolonged adventures in the wild. What hygiene products/methods do you use? How much extra clothing do you carry? I've just finished a 9 month season in what would be considered a remote location. Only able to have a quick shower once a week, using filtered rain...

Re: Water Treatment on the Trail

Bit late to the discussion but with regards to the part about hanging filters looking too modern, I have attached a picture of my millbank bag. It is made from cotton and will filter 3 litres of water. This is the first step in removing larger particles from water and should be done before boiling o...

Re: Type of Leather

Don't have any experience with coats, but I do work with leather. Cowhide should be tougher and generally thicker as long as you are going with full grain and not suede. I've not used goat skin before, but it's usually advertised as for it's softer more delicate texture. If by weather resistance yo...

Re: Clothes vs Costume

What's the title of the position 👀 I'm thinking of getting a bachelor's in biodiversity and earth science and that seems like the kind of thing I'd want to do My official title for this post is Estate Warden as I'm managing the island, the whole island is classed as a nature reserve and has no resi...

Type of Leather

Greetings all, I am trying to decide which type of leather to choose for my coat. My current coat has lasted me about 20 years and been through a lot, it was made with goatskin. It has been stitched up many times and would tear quite easily when moving through the woods, though I didn't mind so much...

Re: CABoots aragorn

Two questions, what colour did you have the boots made in? According to their drop down menu it's a limited choice.

Second where did you get that glove? Looks awesome

Thank you so much for that. I have the DVD with that on but unfortunately left it at home while I'm away for work. Thanks again.

Strider coat colour

Greetings all,
I have been searching online for what seems like hours and wonder if anyone here can shed some light on a question I have. Does anybody happen to know exactly what shade of green Striders coat is? I can't seem to find reference to it and I'm terrible with colours.

Re: Clothes vs Costume

Got lucky I guess. I have been studying forestry and wildlife conservation since last year so when I saw this posting advertised I jumped on it, they liked my background of remote and self sufficient living (greq up near the woods, last 6 years living on a sailboat). It's quite a harsh environment b...

Re: Clothes vs Costume

Very interesting discussion. I'm not a fan of "costume" pieces personally. I like all my kit to be as usable as possible. I currenrly work as a ranger manning a nature reserve on a small uninhabited island so am getting to test a lot of my gear for durability and comfort. I have modern gea...
