Re: My heavyweight kit for long treks

It may seem strange to you and many others, but I take a minimalist approach. My coat is long and big with a large hood so I can use it as a tent. I just find a nice tre to lean back against. When hiking long dsitances, I can fold up my coat with a rope around the waste so my legs can move. I wear a...

Re: CLOSED Viking Shoes from GDFB size 38 never worn

It doesn't matter the amount of waterproofing you do, after several hours in the snow or mire leather shoes soak through. It's actually a bit liberating though as you then stop dodging the puddles or drifts and you can just plow on and make good time. Yeah, that's the way I feel with my normal shoe...

Re: Stealth and blending in to the terrain

Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but recently I practiced some basic stealth/blending in both with camp and with garb. I was concerned that my brighter green would stand out, but that didn't seem to be an issue. I'm hoping to start a bit of a discussion on this particular skill, both...

Re: CLOSED Viking Shoes from GDFB size 38 never worn

Thought I'd post this here before putting them on e-bay, I have complained before that I have weird feet and nothing ever fits me, so here's one of many failed attempts to get historic footwear, I bought these about 3 years ago and for some reason never got around to sending them back? They look ok...

Sorry for the late response, but you could contact a taxidermist and even if they can't provide you the feathers, they may be able to offer you a source on where you can obtain them.

Re: 100% WOOL TWEED FABRIC red and white 41'' x 60''

41'' x 60'' (105cm x 152cm) left over piece of wool tweed that I'll never use, seems a shame to waste it, it's thick and warm, would make a great hood or surcoat (might not be quite enough for the second, depending on your size), here's some photo's: It might be ideal to make a large sash. Folded o...

Re: Elladan and Elrohir: Rangers?

For various reasons I'm not keen on portrayals of named characters but I do like the line of thinking that beyond the brothers there may be other Elvish allies who ride alongside the Rangers. Yeah, I never like that either. It always feels strange when somebody calles himself "Frodo" when...

They aren't going to do something dumb and call it "new next" or something like that are they?

Re: D&D item weights are amusing.

I'm not a big fan of 5e. I think it is better than 4e. I prefer 3.5e or AD&D (1e). 3.5 had a spot check and a listen check which was important if you have a blind or deaf character. The "perception" check is faster to process but doesn't fit all situations. On the most part I like 4e ...

Pemmican - Food for thought

I came across this video on Townsend (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYDuOKI8maQ) about Pemmican and I was wondering if any of you actually made some and tried it as your exclusive food source for several days on a LARP or similar? I know you can mix nuts and berries with it but that really reduces...

Re: gambeson / jacks and water?

I just finished a walnut dye session, and it got me wondering - padded linen/wool armor has a lot of layers... and that much cloth can soak up a just ridiculously heavy amount of water. So for those of you who wear things these as part of your kit... does weather present a problem for you? Do you w...
