Re: Cloaks: to wax or not to wax

I think we're all at least a little guilty of that.

Re: Introducing Tungo Boffin!

This is primarily a three-season impression, as being barefoot in a deep snowy winter—though I do it often enough, for short periods—isn’t the best for the health of one’s feet. (But there’s always that double precedent for footwear: the Stoorish habit of wearing ‘dwarf-boots in muddy w...

Re: On period waterproofing

Well I've got like three tins of otter wax and a brick of beeswax from a nearby apiary. So I think it's worth a shot! :P

Re: Many ways to carry stuff - Experimentation

(let's see if I attached this properly) I was looking at what to carry my things in and I recalled rucksacks in the movies, but it's been tricky finding good screenshots. If the attachment works, you can see that Bilbo and others have what are very clearly regular leather rucksacks. Though, like muc...

Exactly. No way I am the first person in thousands of years to think "what if I tied it to a stick?"

Re: Extant bronze age frame pack found

Here I am, looking for posts about rucksacks/backpacks, thinking "surely some sort of stick frame to suspend a bag isn't out of the question". And here is someone posting exactly what I had imagined.

Re: On period waterproofing

Is straight beeswax not an option? Seems to me like the easiest and most believable answer (though I am very new to this). But I recall Rohan had mead halls, which means mead, which means honey, which means bees. And beeswax, so far as I know, can simply be applied in some heat and it will set into ...

Re: Sssooo... Dungeons and Dragons?

Reviving an old thread. You know, if you wanted to get a game together....even better than DnD, the FATE Core system would work wonderfully for our aesthetic here. DnD lends itself well to bashing in monsters and following charts, but FC is all about the narrative and the description. Instead of bei...

Haha no that's good. Technically it's "O Parno Shoshoi", which is "the white rabbit" in Rromanes. I've heard a million variations though, of people shortening it.

Re: Need feedback on idea of a 'Middle-Earth inn'

I've had similar ideas. I have nearly 20 acres here in Georgia (woodland and meadow with 1 acre stocked pond) and I've wanted to create a self-sufficient Middle Earth village and community. My wife and I have no children and no heirs so it would be a good project to pass on. Problem is you have int...

New Ranger in Northeast Georgia, USA

Hello there! I am just recently getting into this hobby, though I've had several similar hobbies for quite a while now. I've been a soldier, a camp counselor, a boy scout leader, a farmer, a craftsman of various sorts. I am originally from the Seattle area (fantastic woods and trails there!) but now...
