Still bummed I missed it, but it's been a busy month for me with familial obligations. Should be all clear going forward however. Maybe it'll give me time to order and craft some more gear lol.

Re: Oaths and cursing

As I recall, the men that we do see seem fond of like "darkness take you, spawn of Mordor!" and that sort of thing. Though I may just be thinking of Gandalf talking smack to the Balrog.

Re: A Ranger's Hammock

A good tracker will still notice the marks in the bark from your hammock ropes.
You could change that by having something wider where it actually sits on the tree. Such as a wide strap of leather or cloth. It would spread the pressure and leave less of a mark.

Re: Leather canteen recipe

I thought you had to like leave the hair on and soak it in pitch. The idea actually really turned me off and got me looking more into gourds. But do you mean to say that two pieces of smooth leather, with a proper pitch-wax sealing, can hold water?

Re: GA Ren Fest Moot. April 15th, 2023

Yeah I ended up just leaving them in the car and felt naked all day until I saw a dude with his bow and then felt both naked and envious. But got to briefly meet two other rangers before I had to go off on a lengthy shopping spree with the wife. But now she looks downright hobbity. Got a head to toe...

Yup tomorrow at 1300 at the Monk. Gotcha!

As for any other weekend, I may still be talked into going if my in-laws decide to go or something. So I agree we should all post any given weekend we plan to be there.

Re: Non-fantasy rangers, other hobbies?

Sure, I hike, camp, hunt, I scout public land during the off season, and I enjoy bushcrafting. I also do amateur field research and experiments as part of a citizen scientist project in my area collecting data on creatures that are thought to be extinct or extirpated like red wolves, "panthers...

Re: Non-fantasy rangers, other hobbies?

I have done a lot of WW2 field tacticals... total immersion events for a couple of days at a time, with my USGI gear and Thompson SMG. It's fun... plus, the threat/thrill of getting shot (with blanks) by the Wehrmacht while on patrol is always a plus. Rob There's an airsoft group in the south calle...

Re: Non-fantasy rangers, other hobbies?

does a hobby of wandering off path in the woods/mountains/wilderness for fun if in ranger gear or otherwise count? in Scotland I will often carry my favourite bushcraft gear set (that is all modern and light weight), hike somewhere wild, cook lunch over a fire box and stay for the day Absolutely. S...

Re: Non-fantasy rangers, other hobbies?

Actually, a vast majority of my rangering is non-fantasy. In the 1920's/30's there were people wearing tattered clothes or potato sacks or flour sacks as clothes for their kids, and I as a prepper wanted to know how to make a soft kit with little more than a blanket. I also backpack and hike and wa...
