Re: A possibly needless question about Orcs
Interesting. So in theory, an Orc could have some form of freedom of will. The main difficulty with them choosing to do anything redeeming seems to be that their entire lives are spent among a might-makes-right society, and that their nature is corrupted.

A possibly needless question about Orcs
Here’s a question that’s been knocking around in my skull-cavity for a little while: do Orcs have free will? How free is their will, both pre-and post-Sauron? And if they have free will, do they have the ability to choose between good and evil deeds? Possibly for little to no reason, I worry for all...

Re: On How Strictly the Society's Standards Are To Be Adhered To
Thanks so much, Greg; that helps a lot. I was actually unaware of that distinction, so I'm glad to know that there's a difference. I do fully intend to make my kit more authentic as I go along, but I'd like to get out in a set of kit first. I'm practicing my hand-stitching on linen leftovers all the...

On How Strictly the Society's Standards Are To Be Adhered To
Hello, all. I had a question, if I may. How closely ought we to be holding one another to the MERS standards for garb? I understand, of course, the drive to stick to primary sources (indeed, as a historian, I had better take it to heart if I haven't already!), but how do we determine whether someone...

Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures
Legolas... I did have my bow and quiver full of arrows. They see that and a green cloak and that's all they can think. A lot of people can't understand dress the idea of a costume being from something without being a specific character. They corrected to Aragorn. Close enough, they don't need the r...

Do we have a good place to talk about the literary aspects of Middle Earth?
So I'm wanting to start a discussion on the fundamental story aspects of The Lord of the Rings, such as its commentary on the nature of good and evil, how they relate to one another, and what goodness actually is. Is this a good place to start that discussion? Or if it is not, which board should I p...

Re: What's everyone working on?
I'm wanting to work on a tablet-woven band to use as edging for a neck hole on a tunic. Anyone got any tips for me getting started? This would be the first time I've ever done this, but I've watched enough videos that I think I have some idea of what to do.

Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures
Very cool! I have yet to see any trolls in my neck of the woods. I did see a few Crebain trying to solve a puzzle box, though.
