Thanks Pete. I'll check that out before the end of the day. Got the arrowhead today. It'll be pretty simple to make. A nice "starter" for an inexperienced smith. Though there will be little actual smithing, if any, on that type of head. I may use the forge to blue them though. That could b...

Okay, 3 Rivers still locks up my computer. So, I'll pose this question to you who know a bit about archery. My bow, as stated in the opening post, has a draw weight of 40# at 28". Now, I have learned that I need a 5/16" shaft. But I can't find out the shaft length. Would it be 28" ? I...

I LIKE that Byknife! I agree with Peter, that's a good looking setup.
I've been promising to post some pics, though most of my stuff is temporary and will be upgraded throughout the year. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow to post.

Well, the Traditional Bowyer's Bible, Vols I and II are on their way to me. Or at least will be within 5-9 business days. I checked out Three Rivers and for some reason that site locks up my computer. Probably the sorry dial-up connection. I hope the books will explain the different types of arrowhe...

Now, I'd like to see that! I'm still waiting for favorable weather to get some pics of my new bow that I mentioned in the Gen Discussion region of the forum. I'm thankful for the rain, and REFUSE to complain about it, but it's too nasty outside to get out for pics.

Rudderbow is a wonderful site. I haven't checked out their arrows yet though. I think I'll go to E-bay, then over to Rudderbow and see what everyone has to offer. I also think I'll pick up a volume or two . . . or three of The Traditional Bowyer's Bible off of Amazon. I saw last night that there is ...

Thanks for the info, Pete. I also found a link on Andy's site to Allegheny Mountain's site. I was wondering why it stated which wing the feather came from. I'll google Arrow making and see what I come up with. As for making my arrowheads, the guy that I contacted still hasn't let me know when I can ...

New bow

Well, I done went and did it. :) The Cartrette family went to the NC Ren Faire today. I must admit that I really went hoping to find one thing: a decent bow for a reasonable price. I think I found it. I came home with what I am told is an English style bamboo (I know that's not English) longbow. It ...

Your favorite dying method?

I went out last week and bought some dark green Rit dye. I wanted brown, but Walmart was out of it. Sunday, I threw three osnaburg shirts and the two packets of dye solution per the package instructions into the washing machine and came out with three shirts dyed to varying degrees of green. At firs...

A couple things learned from the military. Yes, make sure that the ground isn't going to suck away your body heat, but also you will need something to keep dew off of you. I have woke up with a sopping wet sleeping bag before (in the desert of all places) because I did not take care to simply put a ...

Hi Pete, Thanks for posting all these great sites and books. You mentioned doing a review. I'd love to see a critique on each as you get the time to do it. Maybe point out that which we may find to be of most importance to what we do here. We'd all greatly benefit from it.

Bows?

Okay, so I've got too many irons in the fire and I am trying to clear some of them out. One of those "irons" in a bamboo backed hickory longbow from Rudderbows. It has been sitting in the corner for far too long and I am interested in finishing it. Of course it is too long for me to carry ...

Hmm, now that's food for thought. I've already got enough problems with one toenail that wants to stay ingrown!
