Re: Various projects (Warning, lots of pictures)
Thank you! Hopefully after a little more practice I'll be making stuff good enough to actually furnish a house with. Who knows, maybe I'll look into expanding my market. Starting to look into hardwoods, forged hinges and straps and such too so I'll have more authentic, durable, or just plain cooler ...

Re: Various projects (Warning, lots of pictures)
Unfortunately I won't be able to make much for a while. Everything I've built has been at my parents' house in my father's shop...which I am not at at the moment. But they're really easy to make. You could pick everything up at home depot or lowes. You'd need a hand saw, hinges, a dowel and drill/bi...

Re: Member Map
I wouldn't be opposed to it.
I know there are also ones you can stick on the main page and it automatically keeps track of how many visits there are and roughly where they're from. They don't mark who it is though.

Re: A Little Help
As far as I know most are solid as in not hollow, but your best bet to find what you're looking for would to to just go to a hardware store and look through them. They're usually loose or in clear plastic bags so you can see them well. They could be anything from one with a narrow stem to thicker/fu...

Various projects (Warning, lots of pictures)
Edit: Thanks for the move! This is the first thing I made to order. It's a full size bed based slightly on the Gokstad bed. It was the first time I built anything big so it's somewhat rough and overbuilt. Rather than doing the endboards out of a single piece, I used two 2x4s each. The slats are not ...

Re: A Little Help
Sounds solid, I was going to suggest doing the same with a cabinet knob. I figure it'd come out something like on this. http://www.jaysknives.com/westernfixedblademore/WesternAntiqueMilitarySharkCoatedBlade.jpg Or if you'd like a slightly different profile because the back of the pommel could dig in...

Re: A Little Help
Perhaps you could try brass plating a steel or iron end cap. If you heat the metal enough and take a brass brush or brazing rod to it, the brass should melt and spread over it. I imagine you could use remnants of the bar you used if you have any. Might be able to come up with more ideas if you put u...

Re Introduction
I introduced myself a while back but sorta fell back into lurking as I wasn't able to do much of this stuff. I figure it's time to get back with it. Since I was last active on here, I got involved with a local SCA shire. While I don't fight, I've gotten back into woodworking. Built a few knock down ...

Re: July Solo Overnighter - Pic Heavy
Now THAT is camping. I would love to take a short little trek, paddle and overnighter like that, with or without ranger gear. I might have set out earlier than you intended, but I'm the early night, early morning type. It probably comes down to preference. I may have to throw together what gear I ca...

Re: Primative grease lamp.
I think I'll try my hand at making one of these. Seems like something simple and easy to get into metalwork with. I've been fiddling around with a few different cooking oils as well as bacon grease in an improvised grease lamp using a tea light. I'm surprised how well they all burn. Slightly sootier...

Re: Primative grease lamp.
Great work, I think I'll have to add one to my kit now.
I was thinking it was copper from the pictures. Was that the lighting or did the stainless turn that color?

Congrats, it's worth it, it opens a lot of doors in life. Almost had it myself.
Out of curiosity, what was your project?

Re: A highly-underrated film
I have been trying to figure out what that movie was for some time, I loved it and its sequel. I can barely remember anything about either though. Both are worth watching.
