Re: Sword Preference?

Great responses folks! I only have a very cursory knowledge of sword types and their uses, at least in comparison to some here (though in comparison to a few people I know who still refer to fullers as "blood grooves" I sometimes feel like a frickin' genius, heh...), but what's being said ...

Re: What we have here.....

I am quite a skilled sketch artist, if that counts. Not sure how much that would benefit a ranger, but there you are. An eye for accurate sketching goes a long way in the role as a scout. Once you find an enemy fortification or camp, it helps to have an eye for comparative size in order to get the ...

Sword Preference?

So this has been touched on elsewhere, but reading a bit about it made me think that perhaps it could use its own topic. That is, what sort of sword (if any) do each of us rangers personally prefer, and why? In Tolkien's writing, Strider is said to carry a longsword (Narsil/Anduril), but Strider is ...

Re: What we have here.....

Great thread! I can't wait to see what we get with a full spreadsheet! As for me... Let's see... I do leatherwork (basic stuff so far but I'm learning a lot as I go), I sew a bit, and I fletch arrows. I am quite a skilled sketch artist, if that counts. Not sure how much that would benefit a ranger, ...

So passes a true film legend. Sadly most folks out there probably have no idea who he was.

Re: Archery or throwing sharp pointy objects?

I've only used a throwing spear once, and I really enjoyed it. That was when I learned the basics of throwing a hawk as well, but I haven't done much of the latter since then (several years ago now), and I haven't done ANY of the former. I'd love to get myself a decent throwing spear.

Re: Archery or throwing sharp pointy objects?

Personally, I find throwing axes very fun and satisfying - though I'm not very skilled at it - but I've never been able to get the hang of knives. They drive me nuts. Archery, on the other hand, I absolutely love. Can't get enough of it. I'm not amazing at it yet, but I've been practicing a lot late...

Re: "Ranger's Apprentice"

Very cool! Thanks for the link! It's funny, I've been trying to brainstorm for a while so as to create my own alternate-Medieval-Europe and possibly set some stories there, but after taking a look at Flanagan's work, I find it's strikingly similar to what I was trying to envision myself. So far it l...
