Re: Dunedain Star Brooch...

The idea of having a longer point going downwards is kinda neat, but I think doing it on a 7-pointer makes it look like a flower, and less like a star. I'd prefer a straight-up six pointer, personally. I have a friend back home who is a graphic artist that I'm seeing this weekend. I'm going to ask h...

Re: What's your preffered method of fighting for Rangers?

I doubt that ANYONE on these boards hasn't found themselves in some hangups with the gear we carry. Even with just a backpack on, getting stuck is inevitable at some point in thick brush. My back quiver has negated SOME of this, because the fletchings tend to ride really close to my head, but it has...

Oh believe me, there will be pics. When the surcoat is complete, my kit is complete. Wham-bam, photo time.

Re: Pattern Problems

Thanks for the tips, guys! I'll keep my eyes open for discount patterns, but odds are I'll wind up making my own.

Pattern Problems

I'm in need of some explanations regarding the pattern of a surcoat. Is it just a rectangle with the necessary head hole and slits, or do the sides dish in to fit the waist, etc? Any examples/pics would be greatly appreciated. I just can't find any pics of a surcoat laid out, and heaven knows there ...

New Bodkin Supplier!

3rivers archery is now carrying two different bodkin weights in versatile sizes, both of which are pretty much awesome, for considerably cheaper than just about anywhere else. http://www.3riversarchery.com/Broadheads+Points+Primitive_c57_s219_p0_thumb.html I know we've talked a bit about bodkins her...

Re: Bows?

As far as the knife goes, the blade was from atlanta cutlery co. and the handle is made from some oak i had lying areound. What blade from AC was it made with? I just experienced catastrophic failure with my beloved nepal kukri. The wooden handle just snapped clean off inside the brass guard that's...

Re: Any Modern Boots That Kinda Fit The look?

Aragorn was the most traveled man of his time, even going as far south where the stars were strange. Who knows what cultures were there, undocumented? As we build our own Ranger personas, we can document those travels and perhaps give some explanation, or vindication, of why our particular kit migh...

Re: Ranger in training?

As usual, your bowbuilding skills continue to impress me and everyone else here. Your longbows are gorgeous. One of these days, I'll probably turn around, stop being picky, and just order another bow from you at a reasonable length. Until then, keep 'em coming! VERY well done.

Re: Canoe Tripping

Good call. I'd go for dry-sacks, but they're about as non-accurate as it gets, short of smart phones and computers, so...yeah. Does anyone know anything about the advent of outriggers on boats in general? I've been considering throwing in a little extra for an outrigger to preserve our gear in the e...
