Re: Bows?

Care to describe/show (pics would be awesome!) how/what you did to that Montana Longbow of yours? I've always loved the look of these bows and I may be getting one secondhand soon, but I HATE long bows...though I love longbows...make sense? It did in my head...

August Trek - Nor Cal [PICTURES]

A Ranger and a member of the Rohirrim? Traveling together ? ... On a BOAT?! Indeed. My friend David (recently joined here, hasn't posted yet) and I are in the process of putting together a two-night three day canoe trip through the lower lake Berryessa here in Northern California. I've been off the ...

Re: Some of my gear.

Sinai, what brand/model of horsebow is that? I've been looking to upgrade, but I need a 48"-er, and I've gotten mixed feelings on reviews from ALL brands except Saluki. I know yours isn't that short, but could you give me a quick run through on its performance? How does it compare to modern rec...

Re: Ranger vs Modern

I have access to a few firearms and I know how to use them well, but my preference will consistently go to the primitive side of things. Swords don't run out of ammo. They have a disadvantage in a head-on confrontation, but I don't think I'd be getting into one. For that matter, if I do, my house wi...

Re: How Stuff gets out of hand!

I can see why she'd want some lacing down the sides for the sake of making it more form-fitting...that's all the rage these days as I'm sure you're aware. However, I'd be against making it a whole lot shorter. I'm sure she'd want it to remain a reasonable length, so I'm not discouting your family's ...

Re: Speed Shooting, Weapon Drawing, and Transitioning

Thanks for the vote of confidence in Kassai. I've never really heard much about them; just Grozer and Saluki (the latter for obvious reasons). I'm leaning towards a Kassai Magyar "Bear". Been looking at it for awhile, but didn't know if Kassai was a McBowmaker, or the real deal.

Re: Speed Shooting, Weapon Drawing, and Transitioning

For starters, I never look down anymore when shooting. It's made a major improvement in my speed. When I get a horsebow (I'm still looking for one with the shape I want that's still short enough...few people seem to make decent bows with set-back handles that are around 48") I'm going to work o...

After a second watching through of TH4G, I have some thoughts on things I personally think they did incorrectly, from a Ranger's perspective. This is in no way intended to bash them, because they did a GREAT job with a film. These are merely observations. For starters, no ranger should EVER be sprin...

I toyed with slings constantly when I was a kid. Got pretty good. Now...*sigh* I can throw it forward...but forward can, in my way of thinking, cover 90 degrees of motion, so...I'll stick to my bow, thanks. They're fun, but borderlining on useless in my hands. I'm WAY more accurate just throwing the...

Hunt for Gollum was a pleasant watch. I really enjoyed it! Best day in the computer lab of the teen center I work at here in town ever.

I'm gonna have to place an order shortly!

Is there ANYONE who still makes blades like Paul did? Sometime SOON, I'm planning on starting up with a blacksmith up in Nor Cal for some training, but someday, I want to hunt down someone like Paul and do some serious studying.

It looks like an oily suede, darker finish and a matted suede look. You can improve the look by useing a hair dryer on hot high setting. This will force more wax into the leather giving it a less waxy look. The suede will still appear a bit matted though. For an apron or many other applications, it...

I'll have to give that stuff a shot after I've used up what I just ordered.

After the wax blend application, what's the finish like?
