Re: A few white tails
Can you legally hunt then there? Are you planning to? Oof so, maybe stay leaving deer feed in that spot to keep them coming back?

Keeping Company with a Company of Rangers
Meant to type this up on my laptop, but got sidetracked making leather gloves instead. So y'all get the late night mobile post! I got to thinking, so many people try to carry so much stuff. An item or kit for every occasion. Back in the army I was certainly guilty of it. People would laugh at my 120...

But I assume, bunch like Going Postal or the third Men At Arms book, it involves a seeming anachronism?

Re: Many ways to carry stuff - Experimentation
Middle earth at the end of LOTR's must only be two or three century's away from the dawn of steam, maybe less? that would be a cool world to explore in fanfiction :P [me: worries about derailing (pun intended!) someone else's thread, then realises that it's my thread, so meh... ] Oh wow yeah. That ...

Re: Good Low-Magic TTRPG Systems?
Fate Core because it's as simple as stating what level of magic is acceptable. BRP because it's nitty gritty but so open and modular (and is the basis of Mythras above) Dungeon World but you might have to wiggle a few spells or frame them in the right lighting. Roll For Shoes umm....well, just look ...

I'm at work so I only had time to read the first one, but I really like the set up. Really puts you on one side of the encounter

Re: Many ways to carry stuff - Experimentation
Yeah... for "reenacting" purposes I write off most of the ahistoric stuff of the hobbits (and crazy capacious packs of the dwarves) as literary license and stick with Tudor-level technology. For just enjoying the story though, of course Bilbo has matches. How else is he going to light his...

Let's talk cookware
Trying to think of a good mess kit that isn't a modern military one. I'd like to invest in some ceramics that I could just set directly into the fire coals to cook. They would be great. Just toss in some butter, flour, water, and scavenge meat and veggies. Have a stew. Could even make some kinda pie...

Loving all the answers here, such a diverse mix of thought except where it seems everyone agrees "better to be the friendly stranger on the trail than to be the stalking stranger on the trail"
And @Iodo I actually watched several of your videos last night!

No stupid questions? Challenge accepted!
Hey everyone, just thought I'd start a thread to get some simple dumb questions and odd thoughts from my workday out there. I shared some to the discord already, but wanted to make sure to put them here where everyone will see them! 1) Elvish (or applicable other languages): do you think we should b...
