Re: I got a rock!

The urethane whetstone they made for Vigo is one of the things that attracted me to the jade stone in the first place. A historically based portable honing stone.
Though truthfully, you could go with a pleasantly smooth river rock if you're in the right area.

Elf Duds

After skimming through the previous "how to dress for elf success" threads (ha ha, threads) I have a hot take: Elven personae should be allowed rayon, bamboo, and tencel fabrics. They're all plant fiber based. Who is to say that elves couldn't refine plant fiber down to a silk-like texture...

in all seriousness, that is a nice piece :P
You want it because it's a cool rock and the one thing that the peoples of Middle Earth can all agree on is cool rocks.
Rings come and go, but every major story involves a cool rock! 😎 🤣

Re: Thinking About the Bowie Knife

Ah, misunderstood the thought experiment, my bad.
Yeah, if Middle Earth was set in the wild west I could totally see Legolas as a Doc Holiday type with a bone handled Bowie. 😁

Re: Thinking About the Bowie Knife

I want to preface this by saying that I love Bowie knives and that example of Bowie number one is excellent. With that said, I think Bowie knives are one of those things that are "glaringly modern." I can totally see a larger camp/fighting knife in use by rangers. Heck, Legolas fought up c...

Re: New Kingston Arms swords!

Have you had a chance to dismantle the XIII yet? How is the symmetry on the fittings?
Asking because both of the XIVs I have seen had guards that were a bit off. Nothing awful, but noticeable.

Re: War of the Rohirrim - New anime movie

I just hope they take as much care with the source material as Jackson did :P Sorry, I just had to laugh at that. PJ emasculated Aragorn and the core of the story. That is all. Onward to this Rohirrim project. I'm hoping for the best but will expect the worst. Hopefully they get the core of the sto...

I mentioned it above, but this is a company owned by just 2 guys. It took about 3 weeks for me to get mine from them, but they were very responsive when I noted an issue with my order and they fixed it right away.

It also makes sense from a logistics point of view. Having food stuffs in a separate containing/bag means you can string it up already put together if you're in an area where animals can get to it, like bears. It also means if you have food residue it states segregated from the rest of your gear.

Thanks for bumping this, Manv! I totally missed it the first time around too and I'm so glad I get to see it.
I'll just add my praise to the pile. Well done!

I got a rock!

I've been fascinated by the idea of so called "Viking sharpening stones." Usually made of either jasper or jade they can be used to hone a knife in the field where lugging a full sized whetstone can be cumbersome and impractical. I received a jasper one for Christmas last year and I quite ...

Re: New Kingston Arms swords!

Be careful with Kingston swords if you plan on cutting with them. I have the XIV and love it, but the first one I had bent right where the blade meets the guard. CAS replaced it and the new one is totally fine, but I gave it a serious once over to make sure. Kingston's QC is super hit or miss. If I ...

It looks like a Russ coat with an off-set/overlap front that's a little low in the collar. Re: Elvish knives of the Ainu

The shapes are very organic and look not just pleasing but also very functional. Which makes sense for daily use tools. I really like them. I'd of course skip any of the carving presented if making a version for an elven impression. Don't want to go repurposing someone else's religious or spiritual ...

Beautiful work!

And I must say, the Castellan is my all-time favorite Albion. Great score there!
