The spouse and I picked up a couple of PSE Snake bows. They're 25lb basic target bows. They run pretty inexpensive at around $70 USD and are ambidextrous. Good for training technique without breaking the bank. Got some Wilson grip tape and some cheapo arrows and thwipped away!

At this point, Tics. I'm originally from the Pacific NW in the US. Mosquitos were really the main outdoor pest out there. I've moved to a region of the US where they have tic warnings at playgrounds. *Shudder* yuck.

I'm personally of the opinion that things like tarps, ground cloths, etc. should be made of things that are affordable. Natural, yes. No need to bust out the plastic! But as far as expense goes, I don't think you'd every catch me using a linen, hemp, or silk tarp. XD
