Re: Question on intro bows

The spouse and I picked up a couple of PSE Snake bows. They're 25lb basic target bows. They run pretty inexpensive at around $70 USD and are ambidextrous. Good for training technique without breaking the bank. Got some Wilson grip tape and some cheapo arrows and thwipped away!

Withdrawn.
I wound up sending them back. We'll see if the maker can get it right this time.

Re: Boots

-Tom The size is only part of the problem. He used the wrong leather and changed the shape without checking with me, so they don't look like what I actually ordered. Also, they're so tight that I can't put them on unless I'm either wearing dress socks or no socks. There's no stretching to be had at ...

Boots-Withdrawn

Anyone have really big feet and want some custom boots? I ordered these from an Etsy seller and they don't work for me. He didn't follow instructions and the fit isn't as good as I'd hoped. I have GIANT feet. I wear a US 13/14, EU46/47. These are a hair snug with dress weight socks on. https://imgur...

Re: What are your LEAST FAVORITE outdoor pests?

At this point, Tics. I'm originally from the Pacific NW in the US. Mosquitos were really the main outdoor pest out there. I've moved to a region of the US where they have tic warnings at playgrounds. *Shudder* yuck.

Re: Cotton in the Far East and south

I'm personally of the opinion that things like tarps, ground cloths, etc. should be made of things that are affordable. Natural, yes. No need to bust out the plastic! But as far as expense goes, I don't think you'd every catch me using a linen, hemp, or silk tarp. XD

Re: The Pennsic War

Your ranger kit would fit in fine, but be aware swords are almost never carried, for various reasons. Everyone does have a knife. West Coast SCAdians would tend to disagree, at least circa AS30 ;) Which part? The kit, the sword or the knife? :-) I'm so sorry, I was completely unclear there! I meant...

Re: First post... First piece of kit

Welcome to the forum! That's an excellent piece of kit there. I like your choice of stars and the lines of both the stamped tooling and the shape are very nicely done. And as far as modern bits and bobs go, Safety First. No one is going to give someone a hard time for taking modern items for safety'...

Re: Rugged Silk?

Thanks for the replies. :) I do know that 4-ply silk is heavier due to the threads being 4 regular ones twisted into an extra thick one. So 4-ply is heavier. I've also found 40mm silk. MM being the measurement of weight the way that many linens are measured in ounces. I just wasn't sure if the more ...

Re: 17th C Highland Expedition Equipment

I am so waiting for a video on that pack he made. It hangs in an interesting fashion, but I don't recall seeing shots in good enough light to see exactly how he made it. For a bit I was even wondering if he just used the legs for the upper part of the straps. Also I'm just enthralled by those bog-t...

17th C Highland Expedition Equipment

I have been following Fandabi Dozi on and off for a while and he's always got a good take on things. While this is focused on Scottish Drovers I still think it applies to what we're up to as well. Some of his simple kit bits are really things that even the most scout-inclined ranger may forget. I've...

Rugged Silk?

What would you say the most rugged, work-clothes-ready type of silk would be? I know that the Japanese used a combination of silks, linen/ramie, and hemp for their work clothes in the pre-industrial era, but my search skills appear to be weak. Thoughts? If you were to make an outer tunic and trouser...

Re: Leathercrafting cord-work

Iodo, The water you soak your top layer of leather in doesn't need to be hot. I used to use cold/room temp for sword grips and it's fine. That kydex press is excellent. Makes total sense. You should be able to go back after you pressed it, while it's semi-set and still a little damp, and burnish the...
