My new cloak - a dark grey sagum from ECHO Historical Textile.
So I'm sure I've mentioned before of my love of Late Antiquity and early medieval/ Migration Age Europe and how that period has influenced my vision of Middle-earth. I've recently come around to the standard cloak of the time period. A rectangular blanket that the Romans dubbed a "sagum." ...

Re: Thoughts on folding spoons?
In my reckoning, the more moving parts an item has, the greater the chance it will break down when you need it the most. Although I can't imagine what kind of rough treatment one would have to give a folding spoon (that should be wrapped up and tucked away safe and sound while on the trail) to break...

Re: Clothes vs Costume
I'm with Eofor on the practicality of modern clothing. I'm not about to toss out my trusty Carhartt work coat for a cloak when I'm out working in the field. There's a reason that clothing evolved as it did. Now if I were camping in cooler weather, I would definitely bring my cloak for those brisk ear...

Re: Middle Earth brewing
It occurs to me suddenly that my knowledge of alcohol and the brewing of alcohol is rather lacking haha. I don't know how much I could contribute to the discussion of individual culture's preferences but I know I could help with the drinking of it! It all sounds good to me. Especially that HRUM, Gul...

Re: The Pennsic War
Gotta say, this seems like my own personal hellscape honestly. I don't do well with crowds so having that many people all together in such a whirlwind of different activities seems like a recipe for personal disaster. I'd much rather sit down with a mug of dark brew with a few friends for long discu...

Re: How do you choose to wear your arrows?
On the subject of historical quivers, not too long ago I came across this recent find of a 4th century Romano-British figurine. It's notable as being a possible depiction of the birrus britannicus but if you look at the shoulder, you can clearly see a quiver. They think it might be depicting a hunte...

Re: WETA Strider's bedroll
I suspect it may have something to do with Svetliy Sudar Workshop’s continued development of Aragorn-themed items for EXTREMELY high prices, and other makers (like someone who may or may not be typing this right now) saying, to employ a bit of hyperbole, “well if they can charge $2,000,000,000 for ...

Re: Reference Library
Wow that's a rabbit hole. I like searching for things for people because I usually end up reading the material myself and so learn more as I go. You're really going to have to narrow your searches down as there's just too much to swim through. I have grabbed what looked likely but can dig more. Eof...

Very very cool. This is what I love about this hobby. It's clearly inspired by history and actual artifacts but at the same time, it's something slightly different and fantastical. That fits the mood so well!

I love it already. That design for the handle is great. Nicely subtle but definitely Rohirrim in nature. Can't wait to see the whole thing finished!

Re: What brings you here?
With the short but painful creak of the door being opened, the eyes of the small group were drawn to a new figure that had entered the Pony. A tall man with a shaggy mane of dark hair dressed in his worn traveling clothes shook off the remaining drizzle that had begun outside. The only small gleam o...

Simply wonderful. If I ever get my puukko project back off the ground I'll be looking at this one for influence for sure! Great job!
