New here!!

Post by Leahcim »

Hello all just thought I would drop a introduction and say hi!

Old school Tolkien fan... Think I was about 8 or so when I read the Hobbit for the first time and was hooked.. definitely not a Tolkien scholar like a bunch of you but I been around for a while....

Love the outdoors and camping plus do a ton of archery and other shooting sports and I am a habitual hobbyist..( my better half has worse names for it....), Have worked the Ren faire for about 25 or so years now etc etc

About 2.5 years ago a friend of mine who is also a Tolkien fan and is a member of a group called ALEP(Tolkien cosplaying mostly) was in a discussion with some other ALEP folks about actually getting out and doing the things, dragged me into it and the idea took off.... Last October we had our first Ranger moot(renamed Rainger because of the 12 hour long thunderstorm we made it through on or first night) in Red River Gorge in Kentucky. It was a 4 day campout with us testing new garb and gear we had managed to put together over the previous short while in preparation.... We had a blast!

While looking around I stumbled across this forum and joined up today!!!

Hobbies that are relevant
Archery
Fletcher
Hobby machinist
Leather work
Sewing
Camping and general Bushcraft
General tinkering
Knife sharpening
And probably about anything else you all wanna talk about ..

My "Ranger" is a Norther ranger with a lot of Rohan influence who travels and records skills and knowledge from wherever he goes.... Kinda a protectorate librarian

My gear is pretty much in the works converting my modern Bushcraft items into Ranger gear and most of my garb is based off more English woodsman then movie stuff.... I camp with a bedroll, haversack setup and use a shelter tarp with a few cheats(hey I am old and sleeping on the ground sucks....)

I live in SW Ohio hopefully can find a few of you to recruit and camp with!!!!!

Welcome :P
Gimli: It's true you don't see many Dwarf-women. And in fact, they are so alike in voice and appearance, that they are often mistaken for Dwarf-men.
Aragorn: It's the beards.

Yup just in Southwest Ohio myself!

Matter of fact going back down to the gorge here in 2 weeks for some camping and Backcountry off trail hiking... Won't be in "Ranger" garb but will be using all my Ranger gear except for a lightweight silnylon shelter tarp vs canvas... Canvas tarps are heavy and I am old... Other then that it will be my canvas bedroll and leather haversack to get me through 3 days of back country camping
