First the leather tore as I was turning the outer covering right-side in after sewing it, and then I pierced the bladder with a sewing needle as I was trying to repair it and close the leather up properly. I am SPITTING MAD about it. Just absolutely livid. It was entirely my own fault and there’s absolutely no reason this should have happened. It was stupid and careless. I’m probably going to just throw it all in the trash and figure the money and time I spent on it was completely wasted. Not. Pleased.
Don't toss it, try that water weld to seal the tears. It may effect some of the volume but it should work.

While on the subject, has anyone found boys bladders made from something other than plastic or latex? Like some sort of leather?

re "where can I find a traditional waterskin" -

Guy's who you want to talk to. You can see his regular product line here -
https://www.spanishdoor.com/wineskins-bota-bags/

Traditional bota don't use a bladder - they're single layer, made of hair-on goatskin that's coated with pitch on the inside.

This is the process -

The spout project is just to get one that looks western medievally, rather than using a plastic, bakelite, or olive wood insert.

Oh wild. So the hair is left on, coated with pitch, on the INSIDE to create a thick waterproof layer.

At least piney is better than "goat-y" :P
