A lot of reenactment level work is about learning appropriate historical crafts and skills. This board is for all general skills that don't have their own forum.

...And knowing is half the battle! :?
I am Ringulf the Dwarven Woodsman, I craft leather, wood, metal, and clay,
I throw axes, seaxes, and pointy sticks, And I fire my bow through the day.

I will dig up the calls as set forth in the old hunting manuals today or tomorrow and see about getting them up here for you.

They are combinations of long and short blasts for the most part. My own hunting horn is capable of three, sometimes four (when I have my act together), distinct tones so I use those to augment the long and short patterns. Sounds nicer. I am fairly certain folks in the middle ages did the same; people are people.

Thank you Ma'am I am looking forward to that!
Mine has three "octaves" of the same note as well, without some sort of pitch adjustment it is difficult to get the horn to resonate on anything other than it's particular note.
Fortunately it does resonate in the three octaves on that note (like you said, when I have my act together! LOL)
