I like both concepts! I agree that maybe a ship-based kit wouldn't be the best for your locale but it would be cool to see. The early Umbar colonizer could also be neat. There was definitely a pre-Númenórean indigenous presence there due to Umbar already being named before they showed up but I don't think the Professor went into any more detail than that. Could be fun to see maybe a second-generation Númenórean kit that blends together both a Númenórean and indigenous style (however you'd like to express that).
