Leather Snapsack wanted

Hello all,

One key item I’m missing on my ventures out into the woods is a better pack setup.

I’m looking for any recommendations on where to buy or have a snapsack made.

I have seen the work done by members of the forum here and really like what I see, especially the dark brown aged rustic look.

I also have a mostly done linen lined goatskin snapsack on my "Dunedain" pattern that I wouldn't mind letting go of - it just needs some more button-hole stitching around the drawstring slits to be done. Monotonous work, but easy.
It was actually the first I started, but sat unfinished for a couple years while I experimented with other sizes. It's the same size as my first linen one, but in leather.
Anyhow, it might be a bit too "civilian/clean" looking for you, but if you're interested I'll post a picture as soon as my camera battery is back up.

The "spine" has three places where you can tuck a cord or narrow strap underneath to tighten things up or last something to the bag.

I totally understand if it's not what you're looking for though.

i am handy with the needle and thread, and have been planning on making a snapsack of my own but i had no decent design ideas and hadn't seen one of these before. i would love to get my hands on that pattern, i could make these with relative ease.
im already planning to sew linen sacks for nuts, grains, and dried fruits, but this is a far better snapsack than i would have ended up with.

It's a fairly simple pattern, but there's a couple non-obvious things in the construction. I'll post a drawing and some notes soon - though I'll probably not have time until this weekend. If you want to start looking for materials, you'll need a fairly light weight hide* (I'd suggest vegtan goat or calf, depending on how fancy you want to be), a middling-thick linen for the lining, regular linen sewing thread for the lining and thicker/stronger thread for the leather. Also a couple rings. My "Dunedain" ones use these -

for larger size (~9-12" diameter bag, like you might carry on a shoulder strap):

... but that extra expense is hardly necessary. I've also used these (snipping off the tongues) -

... or plain craft d-rings, flattened a bit / "rustic-ated" on an anvil.

* Oh, and dye. I've come to really like the commercial walnut dye on calf - it produces really nice results without needing extra sunshine. But it has to be done on real vegtan, and it's got some iron in there, so don't dip-dye your leather.

never tryed dyeing with walnut powder, not the best tie-dyer, but have dyed many things to decent effect with regular dye. im a leatherworker myself, operate a small forge (when tendinitis isn't plaguing my elbow), handstitch much, and have much experience crating with different leathers, canvases, and such. first chunk of linen recently became a ruana claok/tunic, and i have a 48"x52" panel left that i plan to use for the food sacks and maybe a hood if there neds up to be enough after. i'll purchase more for the snapsack builds, and may be motivated to make more than one. saw a quiver pattern that i really liked, more sleek and light than my current quiver build but my current setup is being made to actually Range wilds. i'm a survivalist and bushcrafter, so i'm building an actual kit that can provide all one would need in the wild: food, hunting/fishing, shelter, etc, and i have many of skills necessary to make a scouting trek happen. building a kit that fits in with the Rangers of the North is right up my alley! i eagerly await the instructions!!
