Micheal Pikula XVIa blade/ Iron wolf trim

A central place to talk about weapons and armour, as it relates to your kit. This is where you show it of or talk about making it. Discussing the relative merits of types of weapons goes in the WMA section.

Micheal Pikula XVIa blade/ Iron wolf trim

Post by R.D.Metcalf »

Blade: The weight is 2lb 6oz
Blade length is 36"
Blade width at shoulders is 2 11/16"
Tang length is 13"
Current POB is 10" forward of the shoulders
Current POP is about 25 inches from the shoulders

Fittings: forged from Mild steel, to be case hardened prior to final dressing of the blade. "Type RD" :) guard, Geibig type 18 pommel,
Guard capped with a tooled leather rain guard

Grip Materials : Extreme figured scandinavian birch, Elk antler and nickle silver

Scabbard Material: Curly maple or cherry...aint decided but will when I call Daniel Dunlap Friday. Curly white oak strap bridge, Forged fittings, belt hardware and chape. Bone overlay at the mouth of the scabbard.

Tooled strap and belt work by me. There is more but you'll see it when it gets done

Thanks Pete! 8) I hope I can do the blade the justice it deserves. Micheal is a great craftsman and more importantly a great man. His advice has been invaluable to me and the interest he has shown in this project has shown me he will go above and beyond to help his customers. Truth be told he reminds me alot of you, as your generosity with your time and talent has helped and inspired me tremendously.

Update: I just got off the phone with Wayne Dunlap,
http://www.dunlapwoodcrafts.com/index.php My Scabbard will be curly maple, hes going to dig me out a fine plank.

I highly reccomend these fine folk for figured wood....but be advised: *Call Them* dont bother e-mailing. They're great guys, but calling is the best way to get holt of'em. But dont let that put you off I've odered wood sight unseen from them and never failed to be very impressed (not easy)....sometimes awed (damn nigh impossible)

thanks to all for the kind comments.

But scenic, I'm sure with all those bridges :P LOL since I come from a town where the nearest McDonald's is 15 miles in either direction, I can grok.

Beautiful sword but seriously digging on the fittings. Custom work cannot be beaten. You and Jolromir should team up for the photo contest!
