Public domain ebooks to educate the 21st century Ranger

My wife ordered a Kindle as an early Christmas gift. Now, I'm loading it up with some public domain Norse and Celtic mythology ebooks from Project Gutenberg. Also found one I downloaded called "Deadfalls and Snares."
Has anyone found any other good Ranger ebooks in the public domain, such as for woodcraft, hunting, etc. ?
Thanks.

I love project Gutenburg and have downloaded many of the sagas and Norse lit from it, I had not thought of looking for Ranger skills on it. Great idea!
BTW does anyone know if you can get the audio books for the pc for the Ranger's Apprentice series? Or were to look, I am not to familiar with that service but would love to listen to them read while I was crafting.

That's fantastic! I'll have to look that up!
As for audiobooks, to be quite honest, I usually get those via torrent on the Pirate Bay (I am, after all, a pirate on my off days).

lol that must be a nice excuse! I just use "I'm a college student. I'm broke!"
As for good ebooks,

And finally, the one everyone was expecting to be on this list, the book that has taught so many perspective bushcrafters:

Yea. I'm a huge Dave Canterbury fan, and so I like the 21st century longhunter mentality. (combining the mentality of both using primitive-esque gear)

you might look at getting the US Army Ranger's Handbook, it's got a lot of useful knowledge in it, and in fact it can be downloaded in pdf form from here

One thing that I have been doing is to search the internet on useful articles like "make fire with a bow drill", copy-&-paste onto a doc-file. then convert to PDF.
I then save these onto my hard-drive with the above-pmentioned books.
When I am out camping or such, I take these books and articles and USGS maps on my Nook e-reader to test the ideas BEFORE I go Rangering!
Yes, i have found a lot of CRAP in Army Manuals, papers that you are taught but in the field simply do not work! It is as if the people who run these survival camps and write these survival books are armchair-adventurers who read a couple of books, regurgitate them under their own name and never ask if the ideas actualy work!
Example, in one famous kayak mag, the article by a famous kayaker was on field toilets. Reading his section on the Poop-Tube proved that, despite his claims, he had never used one so that made everything else he had written suspect.
(note: he stated that you prop the Tube upright, sit on the 4" opening and poop and pee INTO the tube, while balancing on this tube.
comment: How do you AIM into a 4" opening?
comment: NEVER pee into your poop-tube or you will create a shit-bomb that will explode in your kayak.
actual use: pee someplace, then poop on a coffee filter. Add said filter/poop and TP to the poop-tube, add a handful of non-clumping kittuy litter and seal.)
See the diff between we who do and they who play?
Thus, I take the ideas from the books and articfles and test them while Car-Camping. If they work, great! if not, I make notes and fix the problem. My e-reader simply allows me to carry all of the books and articles easily.

A lot of my favorites have already been posted, but I will add these:
Hunting with the Bow and Arrow by Saxton Pope
http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/8084
Shelters, Shacks and Shanties by Dan Beard
http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/28255
Woodcraft and Camping by George Washington Sears

All excellent reads, with real life practical application, written by people who did things for real. Enjoy!

"We who poo and those that play!"
This poop tube of which you speak, could be used as a ranger grenade weapon! (like a WWII German potato masher) I would think perhaps it may even have potential for fire starting.
Actually I think this thread might be in danger of ending up in the poop tube itself so... even though it is all about the poo....yeah, '
nuff said!
