So what movies show good real Western sword work? The only one I can think of was the Bridge battle between Jamie Lannister and Brienne of Tarth in the last season of GOT.Greg wrote:There really isn't a place for it in anything but a film, and most of us would appreciate seeing it fade out of hollywood...but it's not going to happen.

The Duelists with Keith Carradine and Harvey Kietal. Excellent flik about two French Napolaonic era officers.
You will enjoy it, I have no doubt.

Kingdom of Heaven at least *mentioned* some WMA, and showed it in the training sequence. They then proceeded to go back to spinny movie swordfighting for the rest of the film.

Ragnar and Harold's duel in the first season of vikings was pretty gritty, as was all of the sword work in Robin and Marion between Robert Shaw and Sean Connery (not to much two handed stuf that does not have a lightsaber anymore!)
I am Ringulf the Dwarven Woodsman, I craft leather, wood, metal, and clay,
I throw axes, seaxes, and pointy sticks, And I fire my bow through the day.
Come be my ally, lift up your mead! We'll search out our foes and the Eagles we'll feed!

While Mike has posted some of the duel scenes, I can't stress enough how good the rest of the Duelists movie is. If you enjoy a movie with any of these: historical accuracy, action flex, great acting and a real plot that will keep you guessing till the end, The Duelists is the movie that has it all.
It is one of my favorite movies along with The Lion in Winter, The Last of the Mohigans and a few other semi historic. Of these three The Duelists and The Last of the Mohigans use decent historically accurate fight sequences.
