Of Viking weaponry

I am just getting serious about my ranger gear. right now i am stuck on sword choice. i am thinking of a viking blade as my main side arm and possibly an ax and seax to go with. My question it just how "cannon" is viking weapons in Tolkien's middle earth? i will post pics of my kit as soon as possible( for more sugestions) Thanking my fellow ranger's in advance for the help.

There are a good many different types of swords described by Tolkein both regionally and through the ages.

I'd pick blade and kit that suited me and the environs I'd be traveling in. Even if I wanted a suit of plate, it would of coarse. be out of place in a wooded area. Weapons would be a personal choice and I could buy, commission, trade or be gifted a weapon locally of far away. A good many named blades were gifted and handed down, so again you're safe.

A Viking longsword is a decent choice for length of blade and going in and out of wooded areas. Big enough for a suitable combat weapon and small enough to work in somewhat confined areas.

Which vendor and sword were you interested in ?

Nice choice, Del Tin makes a fine product. I currently have 3 Del Tins and have had several more in the past. One of my brothers (Mike) has 2 also, a Viking and a hand and 1/2.

the ax is a hanwie bearded axe
the bow is a modern martin L100 #50lb
the sword scabbard i did myself as well as the small sax knife

I think its fine; there are many cultural influences in Master Tolkien's works and more could easily be added, such as a Ranger who has spent a lot of time keeping an eye on the Haradrim in Far Harad. Blending in would need different dress and gear. Rangers of the North are only one sort..there are also the Rangers if Ithilien to look to.

I think your choices are well within the appropriate range.

Not lacking in the slightest. I've noticed that some of us (I'm guilty of this too) tend to pile it on like a D&D Fighter on campaign.

HAHAHAHA! I knew I could count on this place for a D&D reference. Back on topic I'm quite guilty of that myself. I have a sword, axe, fighting knife, camp knife, and eating/utility knife. I'm not even counting my bow. And we can't forget the straight edge razor for getting all pretty for those late night meeting with the mirkwood elves.

I think its because we fly solo, if we had a few people with us we would not need as much. If you had even one more person you would choose what you carry to compliment what the other guy is carrying.

This is so very true. I have experienced it first hand.

Backpacking trip one (3 days), carried 75#.
Backpacking trip two (3 days) carried 65#, Devon there as well.
Backpacking trip three (3 days) carried 45#, devon katie brad and I.

This is all just taking whatever we "might" need. I am currently working my way down to 30# solo, so we'll see how that goes.
