Helloooo the fire!!! I'm friendly!!!
Helloooo the fire!!! I'm friendly!!!
New guy from the San Francisco Bay Area saying hello!
I've been sneaking around for some time, a little over a year since before I signed up, and just never had anything to contribute before yesterday. Well, I stood up, then got called out to come introduce myself.
I've grown up with a deep love and appreciation for the world God made us. I get awfully protective of it at times, and sometimes feel disappointed when others don't see what I, and what many of you I've come to find, see in the wilderness around us, away and at home. I started in Cub Scouts, but sports got in the way in High School, and I made it to just short of Eagle Scout. I played football in college, I got busted up on the field one day, but I did get to meet my Wife there and now we have an awesome Daughter that will be two years old on New Years Eve. I shoot in service rifle matches, as well as carbine and pistol matches, my wife is more casual with her shooting. We have a few bows, including a 65# compound, but we aren't too dangerous with them just yet.
To be honest, I haven't read any of Tolkien's books, I loved the animated movie as a kid, and really dig the movies out now. We go to renaissance fairs often, and go to every Scottish gathering and games we can(Clan Campbell), we want to teach our daughter our love of history and heritage. I'm into bushcraft and try to learn as much as I can, I also believe that I need to be able to provide for my family in whatever capacity they need, and we both have gotten into family and personal preparedness since we found out we were going to have a child. I think this place puts a lot of that together in a real fun and interesting way. I hope to learn from you guys, and contribute what I can. I've made a snapsack and several batches of Lembas Bread from the recipe in Manveruons' thread, in fact it was researching snapsacks that brought me to this forum in the first place.
Anyway, this is starting to get long-winded, so I'll leave it at that.
Thanks everyone!

Welcome Brother!
Pull up a log, coffee is on the fire and it is just about thick enough to stand that horseshoe up, we have some sort of creature cooking but don't worry it'll taste fine wrapped in bacon!

Hail and well met from the oft-absent mod. Glad to have you here. We look forward to seeing more from you. I wish your daughter an early happy birthday.
