Mae Govannen rangers! My name's Daniel, and I've been browsing this forum for about a year now and just decided to join. Of course, being only at the ripe old age of 12 there will no doubt be some limitations as to what I can accomplish with my kit (which alas, I have barely started) but I've got some good plans up my sleeve! I first read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings just about two years ago and became extremely interested in Tolkien's world, and went on a Middle-Earth reading spree. I then went on to read Ranger's Apprentice which I also loved. I'm also interested in history (which my Ranger name Melthrist blatantly shows. Melethril (lover) + Ist (lore/knowledge) Hopefully I got that combination right, feel free to correct me if I didn't) Then I stumbled across this forum and found the perfect place! Being based in the suburbs of Sydney, Australia it can be a journey to get to the bush compared to some others but hopefully I'll be able to get some kit pictures up in a couple of months. Now I must say farewell! I should hasten to school.

Welcome! Glad you found a place you feel suits your interests! Share Tolkien with your friends...there aren't enough readers your age that are exposed to it. You're lucky!

Yes, welcome!

... so you made it through LOTR at 10? I'm impressed!

We all started small: I remember exploring a lot of elven glens with just a scrap of burlap for a cloak and a painted stick at your age. :)

Happy trails!

It was probably eleven (my mistake). I said two years ago but It was more like a year and a half. :D

I've convinced a few (and I was reading it at the same time as another) but I have a feeling that some may be partly intimidated by it's size! I shall try though, I shall try...

Mae govannen! I would be remiss if I didn't add my voice to those who welcome you. Always great to see someone new take an interest.

Welcome Melthrist, I also read The Hobbit when I was 11 and Lord of the Rings when I was 12-13, and have been hooked from then on. Now I am 36, and still going strong. Glad you found your way here.

Well then Worldwalker, we have something in common! :) I too plan to stay with Tolkien's world for a fairly long time.
