As there has been a few inquiries into the paenula and I have a rather nice one I though I would share its dimensions along with some images of it. If more measurements are required please let me know.

AWESOME - thank you!
... I am absolutely using that knotted attachment elsewhere - it's perfect. :)

On the pattern - ah!
A bit more searching shows I'd mentally binned "paenula" to mean particularly the "oval paenula" version, as distinct from the (more common?) half-circle cloak pattern. My apologies for the confusion.

... the advantage the "oval" pattern shares with what we're calling the ruana is the ability to have your hands freed up for work without exposing the front to the weather... and the crossed front tails are absolutely stylish. :)
Both come at the cost though of a bit more exposure on the side.

Hrmph. think think think.
Guess I have something else to experiment with when I can scare up some more wool. Thank you!

... and I love the runes.

LOL I know you love showing off your futhorc! It may make this more accessible to casual viewers so by all means, translate away.

It reminds me of using a stone to make a tie point in a tarp.
I'll get a photo of the back for you.

I think a ruana would leave me feeling cramped, I love the ability to wear the paenula off one or both shoulders.
It also sits well thrown back with a quiver over the top of it, pins it completely out of the way for fighting.

pass leather tie through and knot

that’s great! Thanks for the details on that! And I also quite like the leather thong closures! Ultimately this is much closer to what I believe a lot of folks think of as the classic “fantasy cloak” than anything I had seen previously. I had no idea there was a pre-Victorian historical precedent for hooded half-circle cloaks like this, but I always suspected they were too practical a garment to have only been invented that late in the game.

Another paenula example made by OldCraft in the link HERE. I really love that pointed hood.
