Sir, this is fantastic! You did a great job! Don't know how I missed it before...
I agree, very well done :P

One of the good things about missing a few weeks on the forums is you come back to so many finished projects. It's very inspiring.

Manv.... just stop it already mate, I'm tired of you shaming me with the quality of your work. Every time I see you've made something it's like you're a player in character in Skyrim making a hundred <leather bag> to level your leatherworking and it just gets better and better.

Making a scabbard for my new messer. I made a couple years ago using three pieces of poplar. This time I'm using two. I trashed two boards before finally getting a good fit. That whole chisel thing is not as easy as it looks, at least for me.
The blade fits good, a bit tight. Draws easy when holding the scabbard with the support hand.
Hopefully I'll get to the leather tomorrow.

I'm not sure what I'll do for a Chape. May form one out of hardened leather.

Finished a fair amount of projects recently - a bedroll, a shield, and upgrades for my boots so far. Now I just have to fix all of the issues with those I discovered on my first outing with them, as well as put my snapsacks back together lol. My next project is likely to be a pack frame.

Very nice lines on that one, did you line it at all? Also I'm curious why you think it needs a chape? Personal preference?

Your kit has come a long way fast AND you're actually out there using it. Well done!

I think the winning formula for boots for the future will be to get turn-shoes and use scrap leather to make them tall. Gives a very Aragorn boot vibe without being direct copies. Not quite what I did with these, I took a mid calf medieval boot, cut apart a goodwill cowboy boot that matched well enough, and added some pieces for waterproofing.

Thanks Eofor. Not lined. I think a lining would be an issue if it gets soaked. I got rained on for days back in Germany and everything was drenched, to include inside scabbards and sheaths.

Well, not my best work, but tough and functional.
The seam stitched up fairly well but I didn’t allow enough excess for separation as the leather dried. It ended up with about a 1/8” gap the entire length, thus the strip to cover the stitching.

Eofor, I assumed I’d need a chap to protect the tip, but I think the stitches pulled up high enough to work for now.
